Just
across Phangnga Bay, in the shadow of Phuket Island, lies another
southern Thai jewel, the peacful and relatively unspoilt paradise
of Krabi.
Known as the "Emerald of the Andaman," for its brilliant
white beaches, myriad small islands dotted along its coast, and
the fabled Phi Phi island group. A mecca for sun worshippers and
divers.
Ao Nang Beach : |
Ao
Nang This bay is situated some 20 kilometres from town. Its white
sandy beach stretches to the foot of a conspicuously prominent limestone
range. Accommodation is available along the beachfront. Other facilities
include diving shops, boats for rent and sightseeing by canoe. From
Ao Nang, tourists may hire boats to visit nearby attractions such
as Railay Beach, Tham Phra Nang located on the land to the east
of Ao Nang, as well as other offshore isles such as Koh Poda, Koh
Kai, Koh Mo and Koh Thap.
Noppharat Thara Beach : |
Noppharat
Thara Beach This is a 3-kilometre long sandy beach located 6 kilometres
from Ao Nang. The beach, paved with tiny seashells, was formerly
called "Hat Khlong Haeng" by locals, which means dried
canal beach. The canal will dry up during low tide and the area
turns into a long beach. The headquarters of Noppharat Thara Beach
- Mu Koh Phi
Phi National Park are situated here. The park covers a large
area both onshore and offshore.
Tham Pranang Beach : |
This
secluded beach is one of the most popular destinations for travelers
in Thailand. Accessible only by boat, this sweeping beach offers
fine-grained white sand and crystalline waters, as well as magnificent
jagged karsts. Although visitors flock to this beach year-round,
it is still extremely pristine, and considered to be the most attractive
in the area.
The Inner and Outer Pranang Caves, and Pranang Lagoon are close
by, and offer some truly spectacular views. Accommodation is available
over a wide price range, and the food is excellent. Despite the
fact that it is reachable only by boat, this area offers plenty
of recreational activities.
This
beach is generally divided into two sections, East Railay
Beach and West Railay Beach. Of these two, West Railay Beach
offers visitors more traditional beach scenery. The bay is rather
pretty, and there is a broad sandy beach and clean, clear water.
Although it has less to offer in the way of facilities, and has
a more limited variety of recreational activities than Ao Nang,
West Railay Beach is quieter and more peaceful.
Across the peninsula from West Railay Beach is East Railay Beach,
which varies from the other beaches in the area in that it could
actually be classified as a mud flat, especially during low tide.
Even so, it does offer some rather remarkable views. One end of
the beach is covered with mangrove trees, and good views of mountains
and islands are available. Read More...
